Maintenance Tips

                              ALL CANVAS SYSTEMS
Proper maintenance is the key to the longevity of the canvas system.

WINDOW MATERIAL
Cleaning:  Mild soap and water with soft cloth.  Avoid chemicals.

REGALITE CLEAR VINYL ™

Polishing:  Clear vinyl is a porous material, which will need wax, or a light polish (Pledge or Meguiars) to replenish elements lost to the environment, cleaning, or ultra-violet rays.

Storage:  Flat is highly recommended.  Avoid folding or rolling which causes creasing.  Condensation may wick into vinyl left folded during temperature changes.

STRATAGLASS™

Use only Imar ™  soap concentrate.  Imar ™,  protective cleaner and Imar protective polish.

MAKROLON AR and UV POLYCARBONATE™

All outdoor Makrolon materials are subject to irreversible deposits of atmospheric elements and can be expected to show signs of hazing eventually. Regular, proper cleaning will significantly reduce but not eliminate, that process.  Warranty does not cover hazing caused by physical abuse including the failure to clean according to the instructions.
Cleaning procedures and Agents: for general cleaning wash with a mild solution of soap or detergent and likewarm water. Always hose down first before wiping.  Using a soft cloth or sponge, gently wash the sheet to loosen dirt and grime and rinse well with clean water.  To prevent water spotting, thouroughly dry with a chamois or cellulose sponge.  Avoid the use of abrasive cleaners, squeegees and /or other cleaning implements that may scratch or gouge the coating.
Cleaning agents that have been found to be compatible with Makrolon Ar and UV products  are Joy, Palmolive Liquid, and Windex with Ammonia D.

SUNBRELLA® CHAFE ABRASION:

Acrylic fabric is an abrasive material.  Raise the boom to avoid any contact between sail and or sail cover with dodger and bimini at all times.  Biminis that are folded against the backstay should be reinforced on acrylic.

SUNBRELLA® is made from 100% solution dyed acrylic fiber which gives it color brightness which is unsurpassed. Being a woven fabric it breathes, and is translucent. It is guaranteed for a period of ten (10) years against loss of color or strength from normal exposure conditions including sunlight, mildew, rot, and atmospheric chemicals. SUNBRELLA® has  fluorocarbon finish which provides excellent water repellency & stain release.

YKK™ ZIPPERS AND SLIDERS:

Remove salt with soap and fresh water and lubricate with silicone or Teflon, which do not leave a  residue.

STAINLESS STEEL:

It's a mistake to think the shiny stuff is impervious to the elements.  Oxidation is insidious.  Remove salt with fresh water and coat the stainless with a metal polish.

Vinyl fabrics
To clean all vinyl  fabrics; sponge with a solution of one cup mild liquid detergent with one cup household bleach in three gallons of water. Rinse thoroughly with clear water. To successfully remove stains from vinyl fabric, treat the stain as soon as possible to prevent it from setting. Use the above guide for specific stains.  Mister Clean brand magic erasers also work well on a lot of dirt, mildew and some stains if they are not set into the substrate. Vinyl is a porous material and if stains are allowed to remain for a long period they become imbedded below the surface and will not come out.  The above bleach technique is the best for stubborn stains.  Some will never be removed 100% but their intensity may be lessened.  The most important thing is not to let the dirt and stain remain on the vinyl and bake in the sun.
